Wright Township Historical Commission
It has been one year since the Wright
Township Board approved the formation of the Wright
Township Historical Commission. It was a good year
to start this historical organization. On April
5th,2012 the township had its 165th Anniversary of
separation from Tallmadge Township. In this one
year, we celebrated with a dinner, where over $1,000
was raised to start our office. Then, we had a
memorable ride on the Coopersville-Marne Railroad.
We had our anniversary display at the Berlin Fair
and we have been approved by the fair board to put
up a historical display every year at the July fair,
in the exhibit hall.
Wright Township has a long history in
family-run farms. The Berlin Fair, which is the
longest, continuous fair in the state of Michigan,
remains a vital celebration of rural life in this
area. Wright Township Historical Commission is
dedicated to preserving and protecting that which
speaks to the history of our area. We have already
collected many written family histories and
photographs.
Right now, our main goal is to start
an office. There are a few options, but it all takes
time and financing to establish. If anyone is
interested in the collecting and the preservation
efforts we are working on, please call Mary Alt,
president, at 616-677-5404 or email: altmary7@gmail.com
Financial support is always welcome, too.
